Okowa lifts long distance runners with over N1million

… charges athletes to be ready for African Youth Games The President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Chief Tonobok Okowa, has lifted the spirit of some long-distance runners  with more than N1 million   after meeting with them in Abeokuta on Saturday. Okowa revealed during the meeting that there is need to invest in the athletes so as to make the country proud in international competitions. With the African Youth Games expected to take place in Ethiopia next year, the president urged the coaches to pick the best three U-18 athletes, male and female, with the motive of preparing them for the Games. While agreeing on the date to start camping in Jos, Plateau State, the national team coach, Steve Nuhu, was tasked with the duty of preparing the athletes alongside some of the senior athletes in the team. Emmanuel Gyang, Ismael Sadjo and Rose Akusho, were also drafted into the team to help the junior athletes gain experience. To this effect, the AFN president released the sum of N1mil

Lagos to host the maiden edition of Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament

The maiden edition of the Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament will be held in Lagos for top football teams in Nigeria. According to the Coordinator of the Tournament, Kola Daniel the event is meant to prepare teams for the 2021/2022 season. The highly respected media practisioner said the competition is aimed at helping to prepare them adequately for the new campaign and give them the opportunity to assess all their new recruits. He said 23rd to 30th October has been proposed for the competition at Agege Stadium. Mr Gabriel Davies is the financier of the Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament.   D’Tigers will no longer be playing any part at the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket following their 68-80pts loss to Uganda on a cold Tuesday evening in Kigali. All hopes were centred around a win against Uganda for a guaranteed spot in the quarterfinals after failing to top their group and gain an automatic quarter final place on the back of a loss to Côte d’Ivoire. The number one team in Africa started on the back foot very early in the quarter final playoff clash as they failed to close down rampaging Uganda who shot the lights out from the three point line to open a 12 point advantage heading to the second quarter.   Lagos’ State Football Association’s quest to develop female football in the state has given birth to a new championship, the Ekofootball Queens Championships with 24 teams set to battle for the giant trophy presented by one of the board members, Prince Ifalade Oyekan. Speaking at the LSFA office on Thursday, the Chairman of the association, who doubles as the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Seyi Akinwunmi, said the association is doing its best to improve on the height female football already attained in the state. Akinwunmi said he was happy with the decision of the women committee of the board, led by their chairman, Yemisi Cole, to come up with the competition. Despite being an IT Technical Consultant within the private sector, Iyamu decided to pursue his passion for coaching and has bagged UEFA License B coaching badge and other relevant qualifications. However, despite his rich CV and experience managing in England, Iyamu is yet to be considered for the National team role by the Nigeria Football Federation. The 36-year-old tactician said that one of his ambitions is to coach his country, and he believed that the opportunity to serve at any level will come at the right time.
