The embattled president of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Ibrahim Gusau, has said the ongoing crisis in the federation is sad for athletics in the country especially with Olympic Games just few months away. Speaking at a press conference organised in Lagos on Sunday, the president said that everything they are doing as a board has been with the best interests of athletes in mind and an innate desire to develop athletics in Nigeria. NFF President Pinnick, 4 others discharged, acquitted on alleged $8.4million, N4billion corruption charges

NFF COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT Chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation, including its President, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, have been discharged and acquitted on all counts of alleged corruption charges in a case brought by the defunct Special Presidential Investigation Panel, SPIP. The panel, headed by Okon Obono-Obla who is now on the run to avoid prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, ICPC had filed a 16 –count charge against Pinnick, Seyi Akinwunmi (1 st  Vice President), Shehu Dikko (2 nd  Vice President), Mohammed Sanusi (General Secretary) and Ahmed Yusuf (Executive Committee member) with wild claims of alleged corruption against the men, and even subjected them to extensive media trial at home and abroad. Among the charges were misappropriation of the sums of $8.4million and N4billion, conflict of interest and non-declaration of assets. Nigeria’s U20 boys, Flying Eagles, qualified for the semifinals of the men's football event of the 12th African Games after a hard fought 2-2 draw with hosts Morocco on Friday evening at the FAR Sports Complex Rabat. The result meant the Flying Eagles garnered five points from three games behind Burkina Faso who topped the group, and ahead of Morocco and South Africa. The Flying Eagles fell behind after Morocco profited from some slack defending to allow Mohsinne Abba to head home the opener in the 12th minute. Morroco looked the better side for much of the first half but Nigeria came back strongly towards the close of the first period and were duly rewarded when Ahmad Ghali was brought down in the box. Judo Athletes, Coaches and officials from all over Nigeria have started arriving the City of  Benin  for the  Judo Final National Open Trials ahead of the 2019 All Africa Games billed for Morocco in August. The Final National Open Trials will hold from the 27th to 29th June, 2019 at the indoor hall of the University of Benin, Ugbowo, Benin-City and according to the technical director of the Nigeria Judo Federation, Ewa Ekuta, athletes from all the states of the federation are expected to participate in  seven weight categories in the male and female cadre, with the two finalists in each category getting a call up to the national camp ahead of the All Africa Games.
