2012 OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS FOR THE 2ND ROUND
The draw for the 2nd round
of the men ’s qualifiers for
the 2012 Olympic Football
Tournament was held at the
CAF Headquarters in Cairo ,
Egypt on Wednesday 13 April
2011.
The draw was conducted by
acting CAF Secretary General
Hicham El Amrani, and
attended by representatives
of the countries in the
competition. Also present was
Mr Gordon Savic the FIFA
Head of competitions.
The draw:
Algeria v Zambia
Congo v win Cote d’Ivoire/
Liberia
Gabon v Mali
Sudan v Egypt
Benin v South Africa
Tunisia v Senegal
Tanzania v Nigeria
The 16th qualified teams will
only be known on 20 April
2011, as FIFA has postponed
the return leg match between
Liberia and Côte d ’Ivoire to
this same date in order to
allow the Ivorian team to
leave its territory to play
this match.
The match dates for the 2nd
round are the following:
3/4/5 June 2011 for the
first-leg matches, 17/18/19
June 2011 for the return-leg
matches.
The next and final stage will
see the introduction of a new
qualifying system that is to
be further communicated but
three teams are going
through to represent CAF at
the London 2012 Olympics
with a fourth African team
going to meet a team from
Asia in a play-off match to be
held on 12 th April 2012 in
London, UK.
