Arokoyo close to Azerbaijan Premier League deal
Kwara United youngster,
Gbenga Arokoyo, is set to
complete a transfer to
Azerbaijan Premier League
side, Gabala PFK, managed
by England and Arsenal
legend, Tony Adams.
The Kwara Football Academy
graduate, who has continued
his learning process at
Kwara United, courtesy of an
excellent working
relationship with the
Academy; has since
blossomed into one of the
best central defenders in the
Nigeria Premier League.
Arokoyo spent one week with
the team at the training camp
in Turkey to enable Adams
watch him closely.
“ Adams expects me back
very soon because the
league will resume after their
winter break. He wants me to
come back so that I ’ll be with
the team until my registration
is completed said the young
arokoyo.
The defender ’s progress in
the NPL has since been
recognised by Super Eagles
manager, Samson Siasia, but
the youngster missed the
invitation due to his journey
abroad.
“It was a great miss because
I decided to travel abroad. I
had to make a decision.
When I came back from
Turkey, I was not allowed
back to the Eagles camp. I
have no regrets for my
decision to attend the trials
in Turkey.
“ However, I thank God that
the Flying Eagles coach has
also given me a chance in
the team preparing for the
Africa Youth Championship, in
Libya. I would have loved to
be in the Super Eagles, but I
think its ideal for me to begin
a gradual progress with the
Under-20 team, ” he said.
Arokoyo believes he can
take his football to the next
level playing under a
manager like Adams.
SuperSport.com understands
that plans are in top gear by
Gabala to complete a $75m
(£50m) stadium complex by
the end of August 2011 with
support from club sponsor,
Gilan Holding.
Founded in 1995, Gabala PFK
confirmed their readiness to
make an impact with the
decision to sign Adams, in
