Akwuegbu son want to play for Nigeria
Former Nigeria International Emmanuel Akwuegbu is making a passionate call to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to give his child an opportunity to play for Nigeria.
Chimezie Sean Akwuegbu is 15-year-old who is plying his football trade at FC Wacker in Austria. The passionate and young Akwuegbu is committed to play for his Father land ahead of any European countries.
"I would love my child to represent Nigeria because that’s his fatherland, he is very skilful and scores great goals. He is just 15 and plays for the youth team of FC Wacker. He is a striker who can also play in the midfield, he’s got all it takes to play for Nigeria and I know he can start from the youth team to the highest level, if he keeps working hard. He can play up to the Super Eagles," said Akwuegbu.
Akwuegbu Jnr is currently eligible to play for Future Eagles and the Golden Eaglets.
"My son Chimezie Sean Akwuegbu is just 15 years old and I have made him realised the fact that it is better for him to play for Nigeria and he loves the idea. I made him to also know the joy it brings to wear the color of Nigeria as a player and at his age he is looking forward to that, I am happy with the current NFF Board which has open doors for Nigeria in diaspora to come and play for Nigeria, I will be glad to see him play for my native country Nigeria," he hopes.
The senior Akwuegbu recalled his active playing days and regretted the injury that ruled him out of 2000 Olympics games in Sydney.
"My only regret was the injury that denied me the opportunity to play for Nigeria during the Olympic qualifiers in 1999, for Sydney Olympics and this one reason I want him to play for Nigeria and remember my elder brother Benedict made us proud playing for Nigeria and I know Sean will do better in this generation because of the facilities he was exposed to from a tender age, I don't want Nigeria to lose him the way they lost Alaba to Austria.
"I stopped playing in 2012 due to injury and I am now a coach in Austria, I started coaching in 2012 when I know I could not continue anymore. I am a UEFA A License in Austria but life as a coach is different from being a footballer; it’s a wonderful experience and I love it. I started by coaching with Austrian clubs like I.A.C and Götzens.
"Presently, I am with FC Wacker Innsbruck, a second division club in Austria. I am part of the coaching team but I also work in the youth team. As a coach, you understand the game better and you have a very important role to play in motivating the players and giving them the information they need to perform very well," the former Nigeria International concluded.
Chimezie Akweugbu, has played seven times for Austria U-15 team scoring four goals as a striker. One of his Coach an Austrian former national team Gretschnig Andreas believes he has a great potential to make it big in football.
"He played in every team I have played in since 2010, he has been in my present team from age four winning trophies in youth competitions and he is a typical striker with good technique and ability to score great goals" Andreas revealed.
Akweugbu Jnr has also played games against Bayern Dortmund, English youth teams, Spanish and Italian top yourh teams in European youth tournaments.
